Strength Within: Movement and Exercise Psychotherapy™

(1 customer review)

Reconnect with your body while supporting your mental health: Heal through movement, strengthen through therapy.

Strength Within: Movement and Exercise Psychotherapy™ is a holistic approach that combines intentional physical movement with evidence-based psychotherapy, integrating the science of exercise with traditional talk therapy to support mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. This method supports mental health by engaging both body and mind, allowing you to work towards your physical goals while processing emotions, reducing stress, improving mood, and reconnecting with yourself in a grounded, embodied way.

Each 50-minute session blends psychotherapeutic dialogue and mindfulness with functional movement based on your individual exercise goals, such as intentional warm-ups, mobility work, cardiovascular training, and strength-based exercises, tailored to your physical comfort. Movement can be used not only for fitness outcomes alone, but also as a tool for emotional processing, nervous system regulation, and deepened self-awareness.

This service is informed by over 8 years of experience as a personal trainer, combined with doctoral-level clinical training in psychotherapy. It is ideal for those who want to explore the connection between emotional well-being and physical embodiment in a supportive, nonjudgmental space. Primarily provided in-person; virtual options are available with modifications as needed. Please note that due to the specialized preparation and additional training involved in providing effective support for children and adolescents, neurodivergent clients, and those with intellectual or developmental differences, these sessions are billed at a specialized service rate.

Please email directly or click below to book. Eligible for coverage under most extended health plans that include psychotherapy. HST exempt.

Just wanted to take a moment to highly recommend Erica Nagy from Scorrybreac Barbell for any families looking for a unique and engaging therapeutic option for their child. Erica is both a psychotherapist and a fitness trainer, and she offers a hybrid therapy approach that incorporates body movement and fitness into her clinical sessions. She’s been working with our 14-year-old son, who is on the autism spectrum, and it’s been an incredibly positive experience. He’s never connected well with traditional therapy or organized sports, but Erica has managed to engage him in a way that is active, supportive, and tailored to his needs. Even though we live two hours away, we’ve been able to access her services virtually, and she’s helped us create an immersive space right in our own home that works beautifully for remote sessions. Erica is also an approved provider under the OAP for core clinical services, which made the process of working with her even smoother.

If you’re a parent looking for a more dynamic and movement-based therapy option for your neurodivergent child or teen, I can’t recommend Erica and Scorrybreac Barbell enough. She’s truly made a difference for our family.
